Special Honors

In December 2005, Lynn Preston was elected a Fellow of the American Institute for Medical and Biological Engineers (AIMBE). Lynn has been recognized for her pioneering efforts beginning in the late 1970s to advance the recognition and support of bioengineering as a field within NSF. As a result of her efforts, the NSF Directorate for Engineering established a new division (Bioengineering & Environmental Systems) to focus on the field. In addition, the bioengineering portfolio of ERCs is the largest group in the ERC Program, with 11 of the 37 ongoing or graduated ERCs addressing bioengineering topics exclusively or in part. Lynn will be formally inducted into AIMBE at their February 2006 meeting.
