ERC for Wireless Integrated MicroSystems (WIMS)Expanding Diversity in Microsystems Research and EducationThe Wireless Integrated MicroSystems (WIMS) ERC at the University of Michigan has formed collaborations with five colleges and universities serving high populations of underrepresented minority students. Faculty from these institutions came to the fall 2003 Industrial Advisory Board Meeting; subsequently, joint collaborative projects were identified and the Center provided seed money to launch them. These projects are viewed as multiyear collaborations that bring new expertise into the Center, expand its diversity, and enhance its role in mentoring young people in one of the hottest and most exciting areas of engineering. WIMS will use initial results from these projects to obtain additional
funding from various agencies to sustain the interactions and allow them
to grow. The institutions and faculty members involved are Prairie View
A&T (Professor Pamela Obiomon), North Carolina A&T (Professor
Numan Dogan), Tulane (Professor Dale Joachim), Howard University (Professor
Gary Harris), and University of Puerto Rico at Mayaguez (Professor Nayda
Santiago). The projects are in signal processing, wireless systems, micropower
circuits, VLSI algorithms and testing, and materials. To learn more about this topic:
