Integrated Media Systems Center (IMSC)IMSC's High School Video Game ProductionLike all the Engineering Research Centers, an important part of the mission of the Integrated Media Systems Center (IMSC), headquartered at the University of Southern California (USC), is to convey the excitement and importance of working in its field of engineering to students ranging from graduate down to elementary-school level. IMSC precollege programs are as creative as its research. For example, the High School Video Game Production program has been a huge success. The number of students registered for the program in the summer of 2005 doubled (32) from the previous year. Students enrolled from various locations across the United States. One high school student even traveled from China to participate in the one-month program. A highlight of the program was the involvement of Electronic Arts (EA),
a $3 billion-dollar video game company. EA donated three scholarships
to female high school students in the program. In addition, EA organized
four field trips to their Playa Vista campus, conducting lectures and
question/answer sessions from senior game designers, producers, animators,
and programmers. What more could a teenage techie want!? To learn more about this topic:
