Multidisciplinary Center for Earthquake Engineering Research (MCEER)Developers Completing Analysis Software for Capital Improvement DecisionsThe Earthquake Engineering Research Center MCEER, an ERC based at the University at Buffalo, is nearing completion of a software package to aid in hospital capital improvement decisions. The software, called Rehabilitation Decision Analysis Toolbox (RDAT), is designed for use by the board of directors of acute care facilities to decide which capital improvements would most effectively make the facility more hazard-resistant. The program analyzes a wealth of data about potential hazards; properties of geotechnical, structural, and nonstructural systems; performance criteria; rehabilitation strategies; retrofit and repair costs; potential loss of use and life from hazards; and the potential monetary benefits of a retrofit. RDAT rates distinct rehabilitation strategies for structural and nonstructural
systems using estimates of life cycle losses, thus giving hospital boards
a basis for selecting the optimal rehabilitation strategy. The RDAT output
is being made compatible with STRATACAP, a widely used software for capital
allocation decision analysis that is available from the MCEER User's Network. To learn more about this topic:
