| Quality
of Life Technology Center Presents at the 2009 Consumer Electronics Show |
 |
In early January 2009, the
Quality of Life Technology Center’s Foundry staged an exhibit at the Senior
Summit section of the Consumer Electronics Show (CES) with three goals
in mind: (1) increase the global awareness of and exposure to QOLT, (2)
seek strategic partners and funding for the Foundry opportunities, and
(3) attract additional members to the QoLT Industrial Partners Advisory
Board (IPAB). The technologies demonstrated during the show were:
VibeAttire, NavPrescience, Lean and Zoom, MemExerciser, and Bluebox, as
well as videos on the center and multiple research projects underway. This
marketing effort has proven to be successful in fulfilling all the goals.
-
The QOLT Foundry’s Director,
Curt Stone, participated in a panel discussion on the topic of ‘Simplifying
the Senior Life’ during the Silver Summit Conference January 10.
-
The exhibit booth had non-stop
traffic of over 200 visitors from a broad spectrum of attendees.
-
There were many article and
a live TV spot identifying QoLT and the technologies – ex. Fox Business
News Live (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hsHcv146r7w), LA Times, St. Louis
Dispatch and Der Spiegel.
-
The presence generated 1 confirmed
new member and 8 qualified and interested prospective members of the IPAB
within our high priority target industries.
-
Active corporate and venture
capital interest in licensing the technologies, or funding them, are currently
being pursued.
One technology that garnered
widespread interest from industry and potential customers is VibeAttire.
Clothing from “Vibe Attire” lets the wearer “feel” music as well as hear
it, enhancing the musical, video, and gaming experience for people both
with, and without, hearing impairments.
In addition to the Foundry’s
commercialization efforts, the QoLT Foundry activities are proving to be
a great vehicle to attract new members to the Center. Prospective members
are able to see concrete evidence of QoLT’s commercialization commitment
with technology and platforms for their industries, opening their eyes
to the ongoing research as a valuable feature on their longer-term horizons. |
