Imaging of Structured Organic Particulate Systems |
 |
| The ERC has improved its
infrastructure through the acquisition of a Malvern-Spectral Dimensions
SyNIRgi Chemical Imaging System with wavelength range from 1200-2450nm.
This system was obtained through a Major Research Instrumentation proposal
submitted by Rodolfo Romañach from UPR-Mayagüez in collaboration
with several other ERC researchers. The new system could potentially impact
the research of 20 graduate and undergraduate students per semester. In
preliminary studies conducted at the Malvern applications lab the system
indicates that gel strips currently under development in Test Bed 2 are
being produced without large drug aggregates. |

| NIR Chemical image of
gel strip produced in test bed 2. Red clusters indicate that the gel strip
surface is enriched with drug, while blue clusters results from low drug
levels and yellow and green region indicate intermediate drug levels. A
low number of blue and red clusters are observed on the surface, while
the majority of the strip shows intermediate colors that suggest that the
drug is not agglomerating. |
