Brings New M.S. in Pharmaceutical Engineering Program to Rutgers |
 |
| In December 2008, the Executive
Board of the New Jersey President's Council (NJPC), a 50-member board
representing New Jersey's public, private, and community colleges and universities,
approved a new Masters of Engineering program in Pharmaceutical Engineering
at NSF's Engineering Research Center (ERC) for Structured Organic Particulate
Systems (SOPS) at Rutgers University – the first new degree to be approved
at Rutgers in over a decade. With state approval now in place, a
strong effort is underway to advertise this degree among full-time industrial
employees and ERC members, mentors and sponsors to enlist students into
the program. Students will earn their degrees on a part-time basis,
with courses meeting once a week in the evenings. Five core courses
and additional electives, some of which were newly developed for this degree,
will cover pharmaceutical design, synthesis, kinetics and thermodynamics,
industrial processes and operations, and statistical analysis.
The curriculum is designed
with three goals in mind: (1) to furnish graduates with a professional
skill set that will enhance their capabilities in becoming innovative and
competent pharmaceutical engineers; (2) to train graduate students to meet
the constantly changing needs of industry for state-of-the art research/manufacturing
practices and protocols; and (3) to provide graduates with the training
and experience to further their careers in industry. |

| The Engineering Research
Center for Structure Organic Particulate Systems (ERC-SOPS) at Rutgers
University brings together cross-disciplinary teams of engineers, scientists,
and industry leaders to improve manufacturing methods for pharmaceuticals,
foods and agricultural products. Now, a new Masters of Engineering
degree will assist in training the next generation of pharmaceutical engineers. |
