| The Engineering Research
Center for Power Electronics Systems (CPES), headquartered at Virginia
Polytechnic Institute and State University, is globally recognized as a
leader in the field and is frequently asked to send professors to present
at conferences and meetings internationally. Over the last ten years,
CPES faculty have delivered lectures, tutorials, and short courses to thousands
of academics and researchers, engineers and industry practitioners, and
graduate and undergraduate students on all five continents.
CPES Deputy Director Dushan
Boroyevich and associate professor Ming Xu were among ten professors from
around the world who delivered a one-week short course on modern power
electronics organized by Xi’an Jiaotong University in Xi’an, China, in
August 2006. The course covered the whole field of power electronics
technology, from power electronic devices to circuit topologies, modeling,
and control, as well as the latest trends in practical applications.
The event was one of the
largest educational gatherings ever focused solely on modern power electronics.
Lectures at the conference attracted over 300 graduate students, young
professors, teachers, and engineers from Tsinghua University, Zhejiang
University, Huazhong University of Science and Technology, Harbin Polytechnic
University, Northwestern Polytechnic University, Polytechnic University
of Xi'an, China Electric Power Research Institute, Institute of Electronics
Automation, and other organizations from across China.
The participation of CPES’
Boroyevich and Xu is one of many examples of how the Center spreads the
knowledge it generates about power electronics around the world, and the
week once again demonstrated CPES’ leadership in the field to an international
audience.
